JOB COATING

Due to many years in the thin film business, Polyteknik AS has build up a wide range of experience within thin film solutions and the closely related vacuum technologies. The core competence of the company's coating division lies primary in PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) processes of various kinds. From this group of processes we widely use:

  • Sputtering (DC/RF/MF)
  • Thermal evaporation
  • E-beam evaporation
Secondary some PECVD (Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition) processes are used for non-metallic coatings.

As a result of these thin film coating processes, conventional materials can be replaced with lightweight plastics with similar or improved properties yielding optimized products with a higher degree of design freedom.

Among our customers are leading companies in e.g. the electronic, medico, and solar industry.

ELECTRONICS

EMI SHIELDING (EMC)
Today, various types of electronic equipment are produced with electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding to ensure electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). Such properties are important factors for the functionality of e.g. electronic communication equipment.

Polyteknik can provide metallic EMI shielding layers with excellent adhesion and long term durability, incorporated in housings of different plastic compositions. As a result of the controlled layer thickness the weight of the final product is not affected. This yields a coating special suitable for lightweight products.

ELECTRODES
By using accurately laser-cut masks designed for each individual product, electrodes for electrical connections or post soldering can be deposited on three dimensional substrates in production scale.

SCRATCH
Long term use of portable lightweight plastic devices is often associated with severe abrasion. We can provide a coating that increases the surface hardness of injection molded parts, making them scratch resistant while simultaneously retaining maximum design opportunities. Transparent coatings with similar properties are also offered wich are, ideal for display panel protection.

CORROSION RESISTANCE
The use of certain equipment in tough environments might require a high level of corrosion resistance.

BIOMEDICS

BARRIER
SiO2 Barrier (Diffusion) For several electronic as well as biomediacal applications with plastic housing, long term contact with liquids can cause failures due to diffusion of water through the plastic wall. By applying a thin transparent dense coating capable of withstanding moisture, the diffusion through the plastic surface can be prevented.

SURFACE MODIFICATIONS - CONTACT ANGLE
A liquid's ability to maintain contact with a surface depends on the type of material and the structure of the surface. In some biomedical applications and micro fluidic devices, it is preferable that liquids are in good contact to the surface of the respective device. This contact to the surface can be increased by applying certain oxide coatings.

SOLAR

BACK ELECTRODE - TCO - ROLL-TO-ROLL
In second generation photovoltaic elements the back electrode is typically a thin film metallic layer. To improve the efficiency, high demands are required for all elements in a cell. Polyteknik is capable of applying different metallic back electrodes on various substrates in a role-to-role process. Modification or pacification of the deposited metallic surface can be done by depositing e.g. a thin layer of zinc oxide.
